Who Am I? What Do I Do?
Dive into the world of esthetics and skincare through the eyes of a licensed esthetician.
Welcome to what I’ve desperately been looking for. A place to learn, a place to teach, a place to help.
This blog will primarily be a place where I share my humble yet professional opinion when it comes to all things skincare and esthetics.
Hi! My name is Maria and I’ve been a licensed esthetician for 9+ years and counting. You might be wondering, “what the heck is an esthetician?” or “Anesthetician? I thought they were called anesthesiologists?” or “Esthe-what? Who are you? How did you get in here?!”.
Nevermind that last one.
An esthetician, or aesthetician, is a person who practices the art of esthetics. What is esthetics? Esthetics is, in the most simplest terms, the art of beauty. It’s basically the study and/or appreciation of what is thought to be visually pleasing, beautiful, attractive, etc. It covers a wide range of topics like the philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty and art, the history of what’s conceptually attractive to the eye, and the enhancement of one’s own looks.
While esthetics is a much deeper and interesting subject I could delve into for another 5 hours, I’ll keep it brief and tell you how I practice esthetics!
I work closely with people to help them achieve their goals in a timely manner. My main concern is, and always will be, the health of your skin. Healthy skin is happy skin! While I have my fair share of personal thoughts on the standards of beauty, the societal pressure of looking a specific way, and the marketing ploys of companies trying to sell you the next best beauty potion, I am aware that I work in a field where “looking good” is “““important”””.
I try to foster the idea that you “look good” when you feel good about yourself. I’ve fought with image issues most of my young adult life. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to discover that when I feel my best, I look my best. And I want my clients to know that they can achieve that feeling as well.
When it comes to skincare and skin treatments, I take a very progressive approach and try to lean more on keeping your skin healthy, safe, and nourished. I am, however, aware that my license and the state I work in, limits my ability to offer certain procedures or treatments that I know work and would give you results faster. Things like microneedling and certain laser procedures, for instance.
In any case, my main goal is to educate my clients on their own skin and how to best treat it. So if that sounds like something you’re interested in, feel free to send me a text (you can find the number under Contact) and we can chat about your skin and how to get it to where you’re happy with it!
